Hey humans!
Welcome to More Than Human, your guide to the porous and sometimes invisible boundaries between the human and non-human, the things we share with the other species, ecologies, geologies and more of planet Earth. Each episode introduces you to the individuals, groups and organisations redefining our relationship with the natural world, challenging us to interrogate our worldviews and relationships with the more-than-human.
Across each season, More Than Human dives deep into a specific story. Our first season, Living with Birrarung, will release monthly across 2025 and 2026 and focuses on the acknowledgement in legislation that the Yarra River/Birrarung in Melbourne, Victoria is one, integrated living entity. As the story unfolds across each episode, you'll meet Traditional Owners, academics, community leaders, government agencies and more who can help us understand what this means and the opportunities it presents to us all as we face an uncertain future.
Tim McIntosh-Hannah - Host / Producer
After a decade working in Melbourne's arts and culture sector, an increasing interest in and concern for the climate crisis led Tim to pivot into working in the sustainability sector. They are currently completing a Master of Environment at the University of Melbourne alongside working on sustainability programs for the Victorian government. In 2023-2024, Tim participated in the University of Melbourne's Wattle Fellowship, a cocurricular program dedicated to cultivating leadership for global sustainability.
Tim has a background in community radio, having produced and presented Music in Melbourne for 3MBS 103.5 FM and served as a director and chair on the 3MBS board.
Tim developed a passion for the environment at a young age, with a steady diet of David Attenborough documentaries and regular time exploring the outdoors. This has evolved into a curiosity about the cultural dimensions of sustainability and human-nature relationships. Through their work, Tim hopes to encourage others to expand our awareness of and relationships with the more-than-human world.
Originally from Aotearoa New Zealand, when they aren't behind a microphone or keyboard, Tim can be found tending to the chickens, compost and vegetables in the garden, baking bread, or exploring Victoria’s hiking trails and cultural hotspots with their partner Alison and child Robin.
